Moments                       by Sami Khalil

Between a moment and the next, ported ships

Above waters that glisten so brightly

Mooring new and aged docks, prefacing trips

Leaving their berth, launching ventures sightly.

By the way of harbors, they softly bob

Drearily pausing over restless waves

Under watchful eyes of seagulls’ mob

Where anchors lay and storms span the enclaves.

Moments carry us high on time’s shoulders

Giving a burial salute to the dead past

Some wax and wane by being stockholders

While others cast off implications last.

Leave your imprints upon scripted sojourn

Staying afloat when asperities churn.

dearest Sami... this is an amazing Sonnet... Old Ships docked
reminds me of Aging... we seem to want to be docked as
he Waves of uncertainties come and go. We contemplate
the future in terms of longevity. Our Body creaks and moans as
the Winds toss our thoughts overboard to float on Waters of
Adventure. Your Sonnet is a Keeper... tenderly, Pat

So true and well said. You are welcome even with the waves.
So many moments created in your words. Dark and full of hope. Chaos and moving forward. Those lost are never forgotten and remembered. Beautiful.

A lovely sonnet Sami.... I have written about seaman on ships, plowing the seas, and I always think about those who do not return... and those that do are lost souls, while their women wait for them to come home; moments of fright, darkness, death, families, anger for what we have not accomplished in life; stories of unrevealed secrets.... moments of life....

Gracie millee ......
You are very good.

I came to this place with nothing but grief in my heart...

But reading some of you, other people poetry... does make me hopeful...

In a way I thought... no longer possible.

Keep it up!

Soldier on!

I remember looking at the sea at afar..
It was so blue and deep...
As if I could drown anytime at its depth.
One thing for sure it hides many
Unwritten/written stories...
Memories of the past, till present..
Sometimes we wish it can wash away
Our sorrows and loneliness..
But it doesn't,
It's just there
Raging or calm
Reminding us
No matter what
Life's goes on
Despite the vastness of
Stillness...

A good one brother...

"a salute to the dead past"
love that line.
This reminds me of my visit to Salem, Mass. and visiting the old park with the house where women would wait on the second floor roof, watching the Atlantic harbor for the ships to return from fishing excursions...and their men back safely. It is the oldest park in the United States...this gave me the feel of what I saw.
You stir the imagination, Sami.

Beautiful sonnet Sami and as a lover of boats, harbours and the open sea, I appreciated the descriptions and the metaphors used. Above all in these difficult times, we find ourselves in, we have to stay afloat. You are an incredible writer of sonnets. Have a good day.
