Defeat

Defeat

Defeat                           by Sami Khalil

Cradle to grave, how oft the endless nights

Gloomy might be and still forever drawn

Where silences build, fading stars hide from sights

Yearnings are felt and dreams of times’ forgone.

Sorrows might cradle us, pains shall stab us

Wherewithal to suffer scuppered feelings

Or be battered, dangling like hopeless thus

Clouded by doubt, or angry at life’s dealings.

Be of good cheer, for flowing tides recede

For the weary and those who possess flaws

Adrift I am, journeying to be freed

Body shorn and spirit rising from last straws.

Cradle to grave, an enervating defeat

Gnaws us; a vandal of sheer wanton feat.

Yes Sami, you did a ancient song in your words. I loved the movement of thoughts and the energy of the words. You allowed the reader to feel the robust of the words. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.

Nice work King Sami. Polished sonnet is becoming your signature piece. Philosophy abound from cradle to grave where anything possible is in between including defeat. As they say life is what you make it and if you fall off your horse , get up and try again.

so well put. "weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning." that which doesn't kill us makes us stronger. 'tis never over until the white flag is raised. you deal us a sharp, philosophical reality whilst still allowing us to win the game ... :_

I agree. Heaven is under the feet of mothers...
Another gift from your pen Sami. Always good to read a sonnet, especially one so well written. Some wonderful lines here. Life is no gentle mountain stream for most of us. We just have to get on with what we are dealt with. Having a little resilience when the chips are down can make a huge difference to sink or swim.
Thank you dear poet.

Yes indeed Sami sir, life no bed of roses, most come into this world without the comfort of cossetting privilege and so to survive must make the most of their station, the cards they're dealt, defeat the cop out, the easy option, but those with determination and vigour in heart will surely overcome all obstacles and diversity, they know humility and unashamed of humble beginnings ...

Sorrows might cradle us, pains shall stab us

Wherewithal to suffer scuppered feelings

Or be battered, dangling like hopeless thus

Clouded by doubt, or angry at life’s dealings.'

Inspiring! for them defeat is not an option 🦾

I get nervous sometimes, being the first to review a poem of such caliber. How do you panegyrize the admiration for the likes of Shakespeare? You make me wish I could throw bouquets at your feet, Sami. Consider it done!
