Geese                    by Sami Khalil

I spied over my head southbound, a skein

Of geese guiding others of neck and wings

Trumpets blaring vociferously fain

Winging through high, basking in graceful things.

Dare I, for it behooves my curious mind

Fanfare travel, startling earliest dawns

How idyllic when winds unfurl, unwind

Those flutters about in strings of pros and cons?

Oh! How full of stamina and courage

Where angel’s wings do serve onward destiny

Beneath tree tops the watchful eyes forage

For deeper nourishment and due equity.

Meanwhile, the sheltered man will fare awful

For non-ventured, non-gained for the hopeful.

Such a deep and enquiring poem in quality modern Shakespearean sonnet styled penning, yep, fortune favours the brave and those high-flying, honking geese are the epitome of that age old cliche, their spirits collective as in unison they fly free with hope in heart .. Mankind take note!!

' Meanwhile, the sheltered man will fare awful

For non-ventured, non-gained for the hopeful. '

Love this! I am always in awe when Canadian geese fly over my area, which is fairly rare. The sounds that they make always draw my attention. I wish I saw them more.

Wow! We see a lot of Canadian geese going south. They stop at the lake by my house.
Amazing to watch them gather in the marina lakes and then take off in flight. They can make an incredible din. Equally wonderful to see them land again. They also have nurseries for their young goslings and take great care of them. Thanks for another wonderful sonnet Sami. Have a great Wednesday.

The skeins will be crossing our skies back to the lonely north soon. I think this sums up the feeling engendered very well.
