Dull Be A Winter           by Sami Khalil

Dull be a winter;

abandoned gardens,

frozen memories,

tempered hearts,

feeble pens,

creeping clocks.

Well above the emotional clutter,

my thoughts floated,

softly paraded, patiently waited…

eruptions of lightning, surreal thundering,

gentle passing of ceiling’s shadows;

feelings of nowhere

hooked to daily yearning,

dangling over barren, lonely trees.

This aching for you must dissipate upon,

dwindle over the blossoming spring dreams,

for we are absent of ourselves,

glimpsing not the spaces between us,

the devious grips, the sinister horizons.

Be confident, I revel not! I paint not the town red in your privation.

Dull be a winter. Dull be a winter!

Are we ever satisfied living in the now? When its winter, we want spring. It may be a dull season, but it rejuvenates life as we know it. I don't know what season I would take all year 'round. It's a pretty cool mix as is. Much enjoyed, Sami.

What a lovely loud paen to the end of the season and the wishes for new beginnings. Excellent Sami. Although I must say there are aspects of the lonely winter that I love. Even way up here in the Scottish highlands.

I love winter for its broodiness, the cold, and in all its dullness there is this time to reflect.

Winter is certainly dull, particularly for those in the Northern Hemisphere where the winters are extremely brutal. The days become one and the same as we hunker down and wait out the cold and snowstorms of the season, only saved by our thoughts floating above the mundanity and dreaming of Spring.

You captured the season very well and I think many will relate to the dullness that Winter brings. Being a Southern Hemisphere dweller, I am lucky our Winter's are not too harsh.

Nice to read you again, Sami. I enjoyed this lamentation on the season.
