What If'sA Poem by Sami KhalilA discussion...What If’s
by
Sami Khalil “Why worry,
fuss and fret over things that can or can’t happen? I don’t believe in the ‘What
If’s’ period”, he said vehemently. “I believe
in reality, in the here and now, not in hypothetical loops and hoops. By the
way, anxieties, fears and worries, all have their scary shadows. I embrace the
Light of God”, he continued his elaboration. That was my
co-worker of whom I had a debate with on this subject. I went home that day
thinking hard, for that gave me some food for thought. I know the mind can be
relentless in negative ideas, scavenging for unbidden possibilities, but it can
also be a great tool for planning, anticipation and self-awareness. Many things
can trigger our sense of vulnerability, keeping us feeling powerless. From
worries to woes; from broken trusts to lack of faith; from crisis points to
trauma joints. Wow! They do happen to all of us at some point in our lives. Are
the “What If’s” mean adversaries or good friends?” I asked myself. Can we
ceaselessly live inside our worries or outside of them? For those
masks we don must reveal something, in time coming down, tumbling the
defensive walls. Have faith, trust and confidence in A Supreme Being and in yourself, ridding the mind of shame, fear and anxiety to become whole; easier
said than done though. Healthy sensing, fearing and/or expecting are natural
for our survival, but let them not become your sorcerer or your magician.
Drench those fiery panic attacks with water, flooding them with positive reinforcements.
What goes up in flames, must be extinguished leaving some ashes in its wake. If something is not hundred percent applicable, then it should not be a hundred percent ignored. In other words, do not force a dichotomy. It is not as simple as black and white. The choice is not just between A and B. You have the whole alphabet at your disposal. After I
settled down in bed, I picked up a book to read. It helps me sleep better. I
stumbled upon a verse that said: “Trust in God, but tie your camel tight.”
Lights flashed brightly in my mind, as my body slept through and through,
awakening to the sunrise and the crucibles of survival. © 2022 Sami KhalilFeatured ReviewReviews
