Consolation Prizes   by Sami Khalil

Weaknesses can be strengths…

Weaknesses have their nuisances. Although they be frustrating, it is rightly reserved to blow off steam regardless.

Not everyone is born a winner, with great capacities, with Midas touches. I’m one of those souls.

I have to try harder, go further, dig deeper to find those balanced dilemmas. As you all know, life can throw significant hardships on us; inane ones other times.

As I see it, we are all slight variations of the ones who came before us, with boundless dreams and lost hopes. For dreams can course through lush meadows, while hopes can dwindle in sandy deserts.

To be honest, I hide my weaknesses (like most people do) because they can be haunting, accidental on life’s tracks to somewhere or nowhere.

I say, give me the reasons to live, love, achieve and I will give you the wills to hold on, to grasp and win all homeless thoughts.

Never have we felt our losses until the hours of parting, of death, of those silent ahoys, triggering no echoes, no responses, no remorse.

It is a strange world indeed we all live in; some are wayward travelers, some are memories-ridden passer byes, while many others are merely sacksful of unfulfilled children’s dreams, appeased by consolation prizes.

We are all endowed with a bifurcated question:

To win or not to lose; to be forlorn or to be ecstatic.

Has it dawned on you: to live is to learn.

Gee
If we are happy in our skins and do not wish, crave for things that others have it goes a long way to a happy, content life.

So many intersecting lives and journeys. We get caught up comparing ourselves to others and its never healthy. Be you and ignore the noise. Insecurities are everywhere and that's ok but those who cant accept them want to destroy others. Great writing.

Hi Sami,
As we get older (and I am ancient) we learn more and more that we want to learn...more and more...as we live we are inspired to find things out...all of us so very different...but in the end I do believe that we are all looking for the "right" answer..
My best to you and your lovely words..

I feel more relaxed if I do admit my weaknesses, Lord knows I have enough of them to hide a rainbow.
But I have always felt living is learning....and I am still doing that.
thank you for this piece....so much parting I have experienced...who is left?
me? my own reckoning? you speak for the majority of us, Sami.

Dear poet, this has been a hell of a ride to actually come face to face with our wises. We set it and we follow hard. Not understanding that life is the top most degree.

Oh, absolutely, Sami, to live is to learn and by living we may make mistakes from time to time. We must continue to continue though. No one is perfect, but we all have our good points, don't we? I enjoyed this write. Lots of introspection, but very relatable. Lydi**

Oh my Sami - I love your poem. It echos a conversation I had with my daughter recently. I must share it with her! We are not perfect people - we all have weaknesses. Growth is when we turn those weaknesses into strengths. I enjoyed your message and have missed reading you! :) Julie
