Befalls

Befalls

A Poem by Sami Khalil

Befalls                     By Sami Khalil

Leafless and bare which loiters in Winter

Ruffled by the lightest waltzing breezes

And faceless moons skulking darkness linger

A host of trees with twigs in shared freezes.

Seasons hold their fair share, threadbare, tattered

In slumber land, the clocks and time scramble

What lurks beneath broods over thoughts battered

Rummaging befalls of twilight’s amble.

Neither the somber nor the cheerful will

Reckon beyond galloping years true grits

From babe’s cradles to Earth’s, ashes fulfill

Ladened pursuits in thrall of fate’s permits.

Lifeless and bare which enshrouds in Winter

Host of wailers pinned for our love’s splinter.

Wonderful sonnet Sami. So beautifully rendered. Your lines incredibly poetic, you sure do pen a noteworthy sonnet.
'our love' s splinter', that certainly tells the reader what the subject is about. There is a chill and lack of colour which is perfect here and sets the mood. A very decent read, very much so.

A gift from the gifted. Thank you kindly and sincerely.
An unseasonable sonnet, but one that is so very well written, Sami. Is love reflected in nature? Ofttimes it is. A unique take on outside influences love endures in our lives! Great work, Sami! Lydi***

title is a good draw. wonderful flow. i felt the chill of that winter you painted so well but that splinter of love covers like a shawl. the ebb and flow of life and love. indeed everything has its season but love and fate are exceptions which defy reason ... :)

Lucky you. You are welcome sir Pete.
winter holds us in metaphoric fading
as love's splinter does its waning
but what, pray tell of summer's swelter
when love's melting goes helter skelter?
it is strange indeed how we see in metaphor the barrenness of winter's effects on love.... but only rarely see summer as metaphor for lost love... perhaps it is due to nature's cycle of life and death??

your skill/talent as a poet shines in this sonnet Sami, it's a skill that allows the reader to see the world through artistic eyes and experience the barrenness of "love's splinter" in new ways. even though many of us have faced the same lament.... perhaps we are just creatures of nature's "befall" Sami... but then rise when we read such a wonderful sonnet.... it's spring and once again time and clocks scramble....

it's a very good sonnet Sami....

Strange you were touched by the wintry muse in July. Remembrance of cool, summer break up perhaps. The word choice and construction are superb. The imagery worth dipping bare toes in water just warmed past freezing:)
