Ego        by Sami Khalil

Genius…

Bane of my existence.

An inflated ego,

like a hot air balloon;

a derelict of sorts-cruel but honest,

the vanity of human splendor;

the villainy of budding evil hands.

Wears a collage of multi-colors.

Tastes savory.

Bespeaks favors apace,

blurring love and labor.

Images defy no need;

back roads are not paved;

hard to see pretty faces.

Superman…

Bane of my existence

till I found out:

someone is stronger, taller, richer, more handsome, more important…

Balloon was deflated,

lit by the fire of wisdom.

Then, harsh light made me ponder.

Diminished might made me wonder.

I might as well shovel snow,

or sharpen knives

for an erstwhile rival.

Oh pish-posh, write and keep writing until the love of it is all you need. Then is when the sun shines.

Your Ego is important when you write Poetry that is a flight to Jupiter and Mars. You seem to be from a distant Star and that is who you are. truly, Pat

Everyone of us seek fame and glory in our own way. It is why we risk putting out poems on the site. Our drive to share is motivated by the hope of widespread reads and reviews. The friendships that form are a happy side affect of the brotherhood shared among writers and poets. Rivalry, sometimes unfriendly, mostly not, is the spur that pushes us to be better. I get your words. I just have a slightly different slant. Well written nonetheless.

Wow! So true and well articulated M. J. Very true and worthy. Thank you so much for all.
It is a conundrum. This ego of ours is a many faceted thing, giving us the confidence to move forward and then striking us down until we have to start over. It does allow us to put ourselves out there searching for a soul the understands. I think all should understand, but maybe their own ego doesn't allow then to respond. A thought provoking piece. I enjoyed it!

I can really associate with this Sami. Although I am sure you are not like this. Remarkable portrait of what we dislike about ourselves.
