What lies ahead after death when we have shed our skin of mortality. Are we cast into nothingness? Or do we enrich the soil given it takes 75 to 85 years for our bones to break down. Maybe our ashes sit in a cupboard or are we reincarnated? A good write King Sami.

Don't quite know what to make of it. "Death was the vast unknown..."
The final ride down that last lonely trail is the unknown. And an unknown that every Drifter faces with uncertainty.
Nicely done, dear poet.

I've learned bed a little, ridden a few trails. You're most welcome, my friend.
Multiple meanings in this gem of brevity Sami. I do love that in poetry. For me, having lost my mum in recent weeks, my thoughts turned to the golden harvest of her. She was our Juliet, a flower in our garden and now she has returned to her maker in a sunrise of glory. Death is nothing to fear. Thank you for allowing me some moments with her this morning.

I'm glad to share . As I told Fabian, death is just a passageway to the after life. I like how you described her to Juliet, which became a universal symbol along with Romeo. Thank you kindly and may the Almighty give you strength and peace to carry on.
I adore the ending, "A scallywag of short glances!" In my neck of the woods the connotation holds an entirely different meaning. Consider that I am a southerner but three generations from the great Civil War and it might better clarify my statement. It still means a scoundrel to us but a specific type; sort of a Benedict Arnold or a traitor. I like the way John Donne addressed it in "Death Be Not Proud". I envision it as release from suffering and pain,; shuffling off this mortal prison formed by a cage of ribs around our hearts and walking into the bright white light of eternity. I enjoyed your poem, my friend. I haven't heard the word scallywag in awhile. It brought a smile.

I was taught the British English. I meant it here as life is short and personalized death. But as you know , in your belief and mine, it is just a passageway to the afterlife. Thank you kindly Fabian.
Death and the misery and heartbreak it brings makes for the best poetry(well, I think)
Can't say I fully understand this but loved your last line.
Good evening

“Death comes for us all; even at our birth-- even at our birth, death does but stand aside a little. And every day he looks towards us and muses somewhat to himself whether that day or the next he will draw nigh. It is the law of nature, and the will of God.” - Robert Bolt, A Man for All Seasons
