Distant                by Sami Khalil

Sometimes, I feel distant

From myself; outside of myself,

Even in the broad daylight,

Even from family and friends,

Encapsulated by nostalgia

Feelings stored in pretentious silence.

I missed many sights

In my oblivion.

It was all blurry, straining vision;

Emotions like ground up sediments.

I tell myself: There is no sightseeing without believing;

Life seems a fashionable show,

For the famed, for the popular,

For the mannequins arranged in frozen frames-

Wavering in the distance; the order and nuances of impressions,

Front mirrors, side mirrors telling us:

Things are not close as they may seem.

Some rotating like vinyl records, with relative ease.

Oh! How weighty is love,

Hollow the drainage holes.

I think most of us need a fantasy to retreat to in the thick of it, since life seems to be more tailored to the wealthy...well stated.

Javajavinga! I totally agree. Thank you so much Ada. Pleased you shared.
Dear Sami, a belated happy new year to you dear poet. Your posted image is totally mesmerising. You know you write beautiful poetry and your lines had me thinking here. There are times I do believe in our lives when we all feel as though we are on the outside. I have been in rooms full of people I know, yet feel distant. Some people appear to exude confidence, but we don't actually know how they are feeling. My bet is that they aren't always feeling as great on the inside as they look to others. Such a pleasure to read and visit you.

Javajavaya! I do too in many ways. Life can be strange. Thank you so much.
Life seems to be a cakewalk for the celebrities, but I wonder how their lives truly are out of the spotlight. Feeling outside of yourself....there is a concept that is interesting. Watching oneself from a distance and seeing one's own life like a movie. Sami, your poetry is always wonderful and multi-layered. The artwork is super here. Lydi**

My dear Sami,

a true believer, a true seer, will find it very hard at times to live in a world filled with shallow people and shallow society, even close ones can weigh on us, it's ok and healthy to distance your self in your isolation, to protect your self, your energy, rebuild your strength and power. and yes my dear Faith is the key.

please stay safe, stay at peace, stay faithful, Bless You with so much divine power❤️

the pic is mesmerizing. this is so surreal but relatable. i sometimes feel as though i am a bystander watching myself and my world from both a distance and close up. such a powerful ending - hits squarely between the eyes. this has to be a favorite i have read of yours. captures the feelings and emotions so well - perhaps too well. outstanding ... :)

( The picture is incredible.. such a find for your words.)

This really is a very special poem, Sami.. tis a true glimpse into a mind normally instilled with both instinct and life- accumulated wisdom. Seems your view on the Present is presently viewed maybe realised, by how you view the brief or snatched glimpses of the all around. Life has altered and not by choice. emotions are juggled, perhaps - diluted?

' I missed many sights - In my oblivion. - It was all blurry, straining vision; - Emotions like ground up sediments.'

and for those of us not so popular...just another day watching the "fashionable show" from
the audience....
and I keep playing that record over and over again....
the feeling just won't drain....the clog is painful.
