Welcome New Year           by Sami Khalil

Blaze away an enfilade of gunfire

Ones that resound more like artillery

Breasting billows, lilting the shouted choir

Surging into twinkling stars’ chivaree.

I can feel in my heart the gnawed advent

Sooner than later by the sands of time

Destined to return year after year’s consent

Such a sight, beguiling each paradigm.

Welcome New Year; a rainbow’s fresh

In gentlest light disperse our darkest nights

Bond us in love, pleasing spirits and flesh

As we proclaim glory, rapt within sights.

Plink away an enfilade of gunfire

A swift lament echoes through the briar.

Wowzy! Thank you so much dear poet for the visit and sharing. All appreciated.
I like the way that you describe life as this load affair. Choatic in nature sometimes but in the end, like birds coming after winter, you can see beauty amidst the dust. Well done!

We live in violent and unpredictable times, each new year has us hoping and praying for softer more gentle living. Well done Sami. You have composed a beautiful English sonnet. Farewell the gunfire, bring in the kisses.

dearest Sami... it seems like a bad dream when we hear the gunfire and listen to the News... so many "last breaths" have been taken. So many mistaken calamities. For the children we must carry the Light that will still shine on the divine intervention that is yours and mine. A "Torch" will be passed on-- and we as fallen Angels must guide the precious ones to a place of Peace and Love. Our prayers are always ascending. tenderly, Pat

All true and well said Patricia. Gracie Milleee...
You are mastering these English sonnets so well Sami. And don’t they just ooze old English charm, so worldly, a language that resonates like a hymn. Well done Sir.
