Animus

Animus

A Poem by Sami Khalil
"

Comparing war mongers to vultures and the diseases they bring....

"

Animus                                     by Sami Khalil

I once stood still beneath some Cedar trees

Ancient and majestic as you know thrive

Needless to say, chafed I with vultures' disease

Gliding graveled and ravenous slopes that dive.

War was raging sans winners one might claim

Many had bled and many died, rapaciously gone

Feigned eyes were shrouded in the waylaid blame

Some that crossed our lambent sorrows thereon.

Though pain echoed our undulating anguish

Churning restless memories, quite a swell

The mighty peace of God all fears vanquish

Dwelling in the knowing of evil’s death knell.

I once stood still beneath some Cedar trees

Needless to say, chafed I with vultures' disease.

years back I lost a friend and my tribute to him a poem with the title (Cedar Falling) and I see so much between your sonnet here and my poem back there, both speaks of loss, death, pain and yet faith and hope, I feel your bitter tone here, I hear your heart angry, frustrating full of sadness, as for the sonnet as You already know I am not the expert one but as I was reading it, it flowed effortlessly, smoothly, wonderful one dear Sami, well done my friend, glad to see that You are still trying and writing sonnets I won't dare to do that myself lol

You are my friend Sami and you are welcome.
the vultures circle Sami, get fat from the corpses whether from a war waged in some god's name or from a disease that ravages us.... it's ironic in some ways your use of cedar trees as metaphor for coffins (my interpretation), anciet and noble yet offering no reprite from the wages of war/disease.... perhaps too, it is only fitting that humanity kill itself off, then nature will at last survive.....

a bloody (literally) sonnet Sami and I enjoyed reading it very much.... you indeed are a poet Sami...

I can't imagine the mental anguish soldiers go through when killing endless people during a war.

Your words though built a good foundation for that.

Wars are raging on all fronts. The enemy both seen and hidden. The cedar trees are a wonderful reminder that nature can be both a distraction and a healer. No one wins in war. Everyone is a loser. So beautifully penned Sami. You have an eloquent and gifted pen.
