Beauty will save the world

Reflections of Time             by Sami Khalil

(Once upon love)

She reached for me

Through the holy and profane

Through prayers and skeletons

There were dashes in our blood

An absent silken kiss

A plead for immortality

A bleed through the hourglass

Indifferent to the enigma

Lingering upon our minds’ chaos and repose.

People had not the faintest ideas

To hearken to the windswept storms

The smoldering eternal forms

Only love did, spoken in a blinding arrogance

For it swears to no one, promises to get done.

She reached for us

Between rocks falling, dreams drowning

To the brine of waves, nights pulling to the stars

To flags waving…for freedom.

I love how your poem highlights the inevitable fact that even the best paths are still a series of ups & downs, celebrating the contrasts that make up the bulk of living. I also love how your poem grows more intense as it goes along, as if building up to the crescendo that is your ending (((HUGS)))

The freedom to love...to swim through the romance or drown in the waves....ah, yes, so very lovely. No one can dictate when or where love will find us. No one can see into another's relationship. If it works, it is valid and good. That freedom is as vast as the oceans! Sami, you have outdone yourself with the artwork on this one. It is a stunning painting...and your words accompany it perfectly. Lydi**

Sami, you are a romantic.... in spite of the chaos, love finds us if we are open to it.... how could it not be so?? especially if it is the right kind of love, the kind that seeks that "freedom".... in this calamitious world, there is too little of such love... and speaking of love, I also love the art at the top of the poem....

it's a wonderful poem Sami...

almost like we wish it too hard...we want it too much...
and then the kiss of death....we name it....and boom, it is gone.
Love seems better without a label....like this poem, it should just flow...
doesn't need a name, just a feeling....and we can just let that feeling find those "dashes in our blood"
and fill in the rest of the sentence before the period can stop us from loving one another forever.
