I look BackA Poem by Sami KhalilI look backI Look Back By Sami Khalil -I look back-In the fading light To a thousand memories deep Some loomed but never escaped Some wandered aimlessly in my sleep. -I look back-with a longing gaze Things lay muted as banners high Things lay dislocated from life’s coeval clangor Drifting as the night draws on nigh. -I look back-beyond mortal things Shamed by wordless waves Joyed by the bleared emptiness Of wounded hearts, sallow, nameless graves. -I look back-cherishing what is inside Trapped in a barbwire fence Fortunes take me admittedly right Misfortunes take me left thence. -I look back-in the fading light To a thousand memories deep I feel the rush of the wind The past I sowed, the present I reap. © 2021 Sami KhalilReviews
