A new form Sonnet

While I at sea … the sky painted so blue

With chills belie, the warm sunlights accrue 

My mind begged to quell inklings laid bare

Grasping memories of shadows with flair

 

Wherein fallow hearts search for repose

Heavy curtains of love on gray throes 

For some things won’t die so through misgiving

Pain does pierce the lost soul in boats drifting

 

Lo and behold, hope did drape me promptly

When I saw the “Mermaid” swimming aptly

Harbinger of sanguine mercy bathing

A fairy tale, a cosmic star ... searching

 

I fell headlong in her beauty and song

We found freedom flitting where dreams belong

I don't know if I came across your poem before, but I don't think so because anything containing "mermaid" I will jump right away into it, You know my avatar here is the little mermaid. I like how at the end You brought her up, it's like she came to You in your needed time giving You courage and strength, that's how she loved courageously with no fear...

such lovely, swimming words. the allure and mystique of a beautiful women with long flowing hair and the tail of a fish. she seems to liberate the narrator from his pain and misgivings. she comes and goes at will and he welcomes her. yes, it is all about the freedom. now i have a hankering for chicken of the sea tuna ... :)

You still remember... smiling! Thank you for such kind words in return for mine. Was and am so impressed by your romantic poem. Just read again,, you use such different styles these days,, you are an adventurer, sir Sami. You've used fourteen lines, which is what a sonnet is.. but differently, is that a new variation?

Yes it is. I call it Sami's sonnet. An English sonnet with only a different rhyme scheme that does not break the flow or disturb the musicality in it( my opinion only). Iambic pentameter with 5 syllables and each 2 lines rhyme. If read aloud verses others, will not break the flow or musicality to the ears (not putting the other form down but just my opinion). Thank you so much for the kind response.

More than often I do read poems aloud, plus take time to read them, not merely scan and say, 'Nice one!' So, did sense and hear the same musicality.. flow of words, and though wondered why you had written it in 'your' form.. didn't find the sonnet feel at all altered in sound. (A rose will smell beautiful in both daylight and dark night.) _

This is a beautiful piece throughout, very artfully done, but the final two lines are amazing. They could belong in any love poem ever writ. I'm actually saddened that this great art is about a fish girl.

Wow! I understand. It is just a folkloric symbol. In doing so, I tended to show the deeper meanings of life. We are all searching for love or something(s). We all are 2 thirds water and our planet is so too. We as humans, have our limitations. The Mermaid has her limitations. When you fall in love, you can sink or swim as in life's experiences. The narrator let go of his fear and the past and took the plunge even if it was in uncertainty. As you can see, I intended as a message. Thank you so much T.S.
