People are People                by Sami Khalil

To the drums of roaring wars, people huddle together.

Facing signs of death, cling softly to each other.

Going through pandemics, forewarn the healthy and fallen troupe.

Weighing bitter failures, blame one another with hefty swipes.

To the sight of ferocious wolves, scatter away.

Sensing storms on the horizon, hunker down with fragile hearts.

By shuddering fears, stroking its hair, drag the more ignorant in steady waves.

In lonely depression, shun the market, miss the target, defraying anxiety for another day.

Indifferent to rumbling trains, cradle the slipping past in lost miles, beneath tottering feet.

May curse darkness but sleep soundly on king-size beds.

Eye an unfinished painting, awe-struck, with restless discontent.

Oblivious to the poor, compassion mizzles naught in their being.

Defined by the rat race, one-upmanship is embraced with unflinching loyalty.

Such are people! Such is our nature! Such is our times!

Time slows to capture the perfect moment; life is all its wonders. Without pretension, doubt takes no hold. Without disbelief, mystery holds to nothing else existed but the sacred lost and found in nested homes among blankets of forage.

We need balance, parlance and maintenance.

We need love, peace and joy. We need beacons, not bullets.

I think currently we are seeing the worst in people at the moment. We need politicians more concerned with nature, native animals and planting trees. Nice write King Sami.

I love the passion in this. The anger and disbelief about some despicable human traits painted in this pathos filled descriptions of the worst of 'man's' behaviour. The account of what we need to concentrate on is spot on too. I don't often enjoy long, dense poetry but yours flows and never stutters.

there was a rhythm as i read through the striking words and strong phrases .you have very precisly described the situation these days.we shed blood for teritories by killing people .Women are killed for being women .there is a war that is going on between nations, one amongst it's people .And the most dangerous one within ourselves. But can war ever have a destination as pious as love? i like raw work ,and undoubtedly this is one of them .looking forward to read more work from you .

Here in Australia, our passion and pride as a country was built on a foundation of mateship, support, solidarity and the good old fashioned term "she'll be right mate!" and "I've got you back mate!" however in recent times, although we stand in war together we have been divided and the sharp teeth of some are now exposed and they bite. Lumping into groups can only be a positive if the same attitude is present however human behavior is such that we are all so diverse in our thoughts and processes and when our inner protection mode kicks in it now seems every man/woman for themselves....so sad!

To me, your poem illustrates the contrast between when we look at a person or a small gathering of people -- which is when we can still sense the humanity of each one -- and the way we perceive group behaviors -- lumping everyone into a mindset that serves an agenda, often to malign the group. Sometimes it seems the public discourse is a big jumble of reactions, whereas your poem seems to be urging us to consider people as the diverse beings they are . . . not lumping together with labels & generalizations . . . but seeing that each one is a unique bundle of ideas & beliefs (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Little things can bring much joys for they do not have to be grand things. Enjoy while you can...
yes we are. this reads like a manifesto of the human condition. the more time that passes, seems like mankind is regressing. we cling to the wrong things that seem infallible and that society tries to shove down our throats. when the wheels come off hidden things are exposed and can get ugly. interesting times we are living in. love and respect endure though and are indestructible. when will we ever learn (maybe never) ... :)

How true.. how wrong to right is that.. how movingly aware.. how inspiring.. VITALLY. how gentle the finish. Life has been anguished bewilderment to and for so many in history.. not least in recent history when divides have become immoral. Perhaps, though a tragedy to say the least, the pandemic we're ALL suffering will make people realise that we are ALL THE SAME, inside out Such a powerful piece of writing, Sami.. forgive me for taking up so much room.. thoughts are running off and away..
