Scented Words             by Sami Khalil

(Romance)

Erode not what threadbare confidence I have,

for my essence sighs the scented words of love.

Leave oration sterile, flay me not with judgement.

Catch my dreams carved from the flutter of your eyelashes, your briefest flares.

My rain-soaked hours stretch behind me, with slenderest shadows deftly trudging lecture halls, my Dove!

I had sought neither chills nor burdens of hesitant replies. Though rummaging the weighty oaks with rarefied knowledge, I had found you in the frozen clouds, tethered to my journeys.

Perhaps complicit across laden skies, I saw beyond the admonition of a fervored lover, rehearsing the spells through hazy chaos, the timber that laughter evokes!

Be not beggarly, stingy in love. The future glistens with radiant arrows, with limitless invitations, forestalled. Prod the coals set by your fire, burning my former self with faint glimmers, my fragile breath of life.

Love is the crucible of our becoming.

Erode not what threadbare confidence I have,

for I doff my hat to your lithe form, your bated silhouettes, to speak of…

LOL...Hahaha....
I am no expert on romantic writing, since it's not a favorite for me, but the first thing I feel is how this message comes across as thundering & demanding & lecturing . . . not the way a lover would romance another, but more like how a thundering God might want to shake a person while saying all this. I get the feeling the narrator demands unquestioning unwavering love, but I'm afraid we can't demand any kind of love (in my opinion). Love comes in its own time & tone! *wink! wink!* Fondly, Margie

Wow!. You summed it up marvelously. Gracie Mille...
Love has it's beginning on the clouds
where angels rest upon pillows of
heavenly bliss... the scent of a kiss
and tethered to the longing for you.
Beautifully romantically penned. as ever, Pat

why is it, Sami, that those how love the hardest, give the most to others seem to have the least store of confidence...?
we walk on eggshells so fearful that we will not be loved back...
and yet we still give all that we have...'
such a mesmerizing poem here that captures those feelings so well.
