Light BendersA Poem by Sami KhalilRomanceLight Benders by Sami Khalil Here, time loiters in immortality, wheezing the
breath of life…an earthen merchant, unencumbered, slithering away like a snake. Here, I had a second coming, struggling with deep
rasps, with unused verbs. We know our time is short, a disenchanted truth,
hung on a crescendo, on high timidity, on savory places. Here, I once knew the irresistible traces of love,
the lavish shattering of war, the accidental claims of clouds, the platitude
story lines, the thrusted ambitions of man where with his success comes many a
catastrophe. Here, with a bleating heart, I held you close to my
oblivion. I unfurled our world, the one born blind, bending inalienable light
through it. What a woman to show without reservations, without sign intervention! I tipped you out of balance to my windowless soul, to my unified tones, to my clash of disbeliefs, neither suspicious nor superior. I was devoured by your love in seamless senselessness. I went greener on either
side of seasons’ anticipation, extolled. Here, between the now and forever, this earthen
merchant stands victorious in derelictions of duty, aimlessly decrepit. Here, I hold you where the mountains meet the sea,
where the bouquet of roses unfolds in flamboyance, where shadows hide beneath
satin sheets. Here, on rainbow Fantasy!
