You saw me born          by Sami Khalil

I had you in mind, the backdrop of the night,

to pen my chronicles, with great effect, unexpurgated.

Impromptu thoughts made landfalls,

dancing in red and grey,

in imperceptible glints, till the morning.

I was unscathed, innumerable times,

forever undone, fading in and out.

I had you in mind, when words toiled,

our winged friends, flitting about under coral skies, touching the sun softly.

A cold front was announced, a tardy burst.

Resolutely we stood together, jolly in silly ways,

in sweet ardor, with gleeful smiles, above all adored.

Love was our fest host, a requisite partner,

begrudged without measure.

We wept with aberration, with heavy tongues

confessed, guarded by a posse in lawless lands.

I had you in mind, the backdrop of the night,

sleepless, for sleepers relinquish the nights.

I had you in bona fide quietude, in love.

You saw me born!

deep, interesting analogy. when romance blooms something wonderful is born as are we. the sun is brighter, the sky bluer. nothing can stop it - cuts through, clarifies and transcends, even storms (weathering and staying the course). mere thoughts of our loves conjure up innumerable, unstoppable feelings in that place of quietude ... :)

We wept with aberration, with heavy tongues

confessed, guarded by a posse in lawless lands.

OMG! Your words are so beautiful and poetic. Proud to call you friend. Be blessed...
It seems I've not seen "romance" from you, nor have I seen too many poems. Now I've read two romance poems from you & they are like night & day! This one is more in the soft romantic tones one might expect. I love the core concept that love can cause us to be born, so that when two people fall in love, this is like being there when someone is born. I love the complexity of all that implies (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

My first impression was that, yes, this did read like a song, Sami. I think it was the repetition that put that thought in my head. Whatever the form it works wonderfully on the page.

Your writes have always been full of exceptional vocabulary and this one is no different. The imagery and romantic tone just carries the words to new heights. Love can certainly make us feel reborn and you have conveyed that point very well throughout. A fine romantic piece of work.

'I had you in mind, the backdrop of the night, ' sleepless, for sleepers relinquish the nights.'

You've always had a way of entering the mind by a back door! The way you've expressed what I think is the birth of a poem .. is a suddenly waking dream, Sami. From first word to last, you've gently filled the mind with your own 'bona fide quietude'. Both an academic and emotional poem, cleverly
executed. Gently, of course.

romance, yes....also could be a creative thought born...the muse is our better half and she not only sees it, she helps birth it...
we feel "begrudged without measure"---
the relationship is always just a bit crazy isn't it? she comes and goes...but always there in the delivery room when a poem is born.
