Forsaken ShoresA Poem by Sami KhalilTo those who feel that way...Forsaken shores by Sami
Khalil (To those who feel that way) Brush me against nights lurking, the frayed pages of days in, days out, highs and
lows. In faithful swearing, I lost my prudence without a
heed. I rose smitten, tracing the cinders of love, before tomorrow snuck in with fleeting footsteps. On behalf of us, I chased the fragility of solace, with no return policy. I blamed foolishness for the last meal, over and
over again. Bitterness has leftovers, so do reality’s aftershocks.
I’m worn out, brittle, stretching on a bed of rues.
When I fill in the blanks, my sighs parenthesize full stops. Brush me against the hamstrung hours, where I glow
in your sailing eyes. Everyone is eavesdropping on my smitten senses,
barging on thereupon ventures. You breezed by like strangers in the mirror, like
trains leaving one after the other. I lost count languishing in starless nights. Silence
glazed my glares with specks of fear. With thousand spells, I nested in feathery dismays,
scribbling over and over: “I love you,” only to hear the rhapsody of echo-less
eternity. Brush me on raveled ifs, on forsaken shores!
