Praises of Autumn   by Sami Khalil

Speak softly the praises of Autumn,

the dabbling of colors, so lovely,

the lazy rustlings of leaves’ sparkling gems,

the scurrying of light and birds,

in shadows and in haze,

across the pallor sky strands.

Speak in awe, so gently,

Stifle not a prayer, a kind request,

and sing those sensual songs,

no ashes, no regrets beholden.

Bind me fast to magic spells,

for I’m bereft of shelters, in your eyes,

in your heart where love betrays no expectations, no gathered storms.

Bind me slow where dreams mingle as one, holding fast to supple arms, to soft folds?

I long for Autumn, to linger in old barns, to shepherd the flock, to sway in joyous rapture with the branches.

I’ve awaited…at the edge of souls, across nobler paths, staring through their windows.

I’ve dived in restless abandonment's to further shores, with capsized memories, embracing eyes of quivering waves.

I’ve laced up hopes through silent woods, verdant highlands, losing them in opportune times.

I’ve envied the lost, the forgotten, for they inherited the whisper of names, the absent vestiges, the porcelain figures.

Speak softly the praises of love.

An amazing celebration of the season and of love. Really fine words. We are lucky to have you around in these parts. Don't let the petty and disingenuous, or even crazies, get you down.

Tender and lovely like the colorful leaves of the season. I love the reference to old barns particularly, growing up as a farmer's son. Nothing like those secret kisses in the hayloft with the farmer's daughter next door. But I enjoyed the entirety. Thank you for sharing.

Million thank yous dear poet for this lovely review and summation. It sure does. Enjoy the season.
This is quite an ode to the season. The fullness of feeling and the ways emotion and spirit seem to connect the speaker to the joys and sorrows of the season are truly felt.

I think what I like best about this is the way it expresses the mixture of feelings we have when we experience something grand. It’s never a simple encounter, but something that scaffolds and stitches in us the complexity of life in this world.

I’ve read a lot of autumn poems on the site over the last month or so, but this one offers a different kind of depth that I really enjoyed. Something spiritual in nature. A lovely poem.

All wonderful. Best wishes on all of that.
dear Sami, when the soul feels to speak, it will utter like this... I will not say that Your words are beautiful, because beautiful is even but a bit of what they deserve, from the pieces I've read from You till now, this is Your finest, this is where I deeply feel Your soul, Your truer essence, Your soul feels, aches, hopes, yearns... to the beautiful past, to the beautiful future, it's graceful and wistful like an Autumns' breeze, I read this piece twice, and still I'm amazed by the rich, profound and passionate thoughts You've presented from Your deepest inner to ours. 100 for a 100 times if I could.

Sami... I woke to a rosy pink sunrise and yellow leaves softly
fluttered like butterflies as birds chirped and children scurried
to ride the school bus... where cusps of autumn air pulled the
last flowers into a flamingo dance where pansies bowed their
purple petals in prayer... It seems that this time of year
there is a tear for lost love and lost loved ones. Your poetry is
like a tree with falling leaves whose life has slipped away to be
swept away to climates where there may be rebirth. truly, Pat

Autumn is such a glorious time in the heart of a poet. Mother nature paints in majestic hues before the gray of winter causes us to hibernate till spring, but oh, what a brilliant tapestry it is! Lovely lines throughout really captivate, Sami. Beautifully and artistically penned!
