Subdued Names   By Sami Khalil

Ponderings…

My exact shadow had a resurgence of subdued names.

Vigilant in eventides, his silence rifles through me, in nonchalant manners.

But time rushed past us, blessing the emptiness of waiting lines.

As we hold the shield high, with hollow arms, hostages seep through our breasts.

Chance after chance, he had taken me across elapsed heartbeats.

I could not dissolve my bruises that weighed valiantly in my apprehensive rendezvous.

I might have drifted in self-sufficiency, lofty to many in its concluding smiles.

With tears in each corner, I idolized the marbled sky, feeling more than breaths laden with faceless partners.

My softer heart was a free verse, flowing from generous hands and across fences.

Each time I mouthed a narrative, guilt came forward, blustery and throwing stones.

I had not but scarlet roses to throw back and, a flurry of gasps.

I hastened to the blue curtains to close them.

My exact shadow and I became accustomed to subdued names…

how very interesting a tale .. told so well with self and shadow ... boxing perhaps at times ;) this line:
"I might have drifted in self-sufficiency, lofty to many in its concluding smiles." and your closing 4 lines are just killers for me .. i loved reading this ..the experience as a writer in pursuit of honesty ..integrity and those perfect words/images/emotions ...all come to mind as i read .. and on life itself ..those shadows all must be dealt with to retain health in mind and spirit .. really really like this one Sami! great read for me!
E.
ps. the pic is incredible .. the eye is drawn first to the palm .. then the head .. then the light and then the shadows coming forth .. at least for me anyway .. fine stuff to start me morning

All of us, each and every one make mistakes, have regrets, sorrows to carry as we journey along life's often rocky road, and though our feet blister and may even bleed, we do not/must not give up, or decide to take the easy, slippery slide back downhill, we merely rest, cleanse and redress the soles of our feet, as we listen and learn from our inner voice, the exact shadow speaks to us of those previous, past shortcomings which only serve to further imbibe our resolve and determination to continue, for there is sparkling treasure to be found at the summit of journeys end! 👑

An uplifting, discerning discourse my friend, character building poetry and a happy new year Sami, may rich blessings always be upon you brother!

Sami, there are some beautiful poetic lines in this write. You are indeed a poet. This poem did give me some dark feelings about those shadows. It does appear though, that you have become accustomed to their presence. All good wishes.

I'm sensing a dark undertow. Tension shadowed by an indifferent hunger. Shaded by innuendo and gile. Lit from within.
