    Anodyne

……………....By Sami Khalil

A romance poem………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Those abiding questions abound

Whilst raged and constantly be

Whose hemmed immortals round

To fetch back their infinite glee.

Who ravished labours and reigns

Accurst in pride and haggard rites

Beholding selfish, disheveled gains

Palsied as it were in guilty plights.

But love needn’t a retort or reproof

Whose repose in comparison none forgo

And hearts yet manacled in blithe aloof

Perused to no starry end in sunset glow.

Whose unforeseen silence and succor lay

Edifying in truant swells a puissant way.

A poem that captures the picture of journey of a lover.

Your poem as usual is very beautiful. This is what I can say.

The way you have described in few lines how much hardships are given to a lover in different ways is worthy to praise. And the way you have described the power and actual meaning of love and how the hardships come to an end and flowers pleasant smell then spread is amazing.

Thanks for sharing this piece with all of us.

The artwork and words was amazing.

The above lines stood out for me. Feel of the ancient writers in your words. Love is chance and luck. Need perfect place and two people wanting the same need. Rarely happens. Thank you my friend for sharing the excellent poetry.

Fantastic play with words. Capturing an essence of olden day romance. I find it hard to use words like this and my poems can be rather simple so I do admire your skill. I will read more of your writing Sami.

Firstly,. your words are truly complimented by the beautiful illustration, Sami - or should it be in reverse because the painting goes back a while! Never mind, they marry beautifully. As ever you use words so well, you juggle and smooth phrases until they fit their meaning.- in this case, elegantly. , so, well done, and, thank you so much from displaying the romantic style of past poets.

The core 'anodyne' brings bearing on what is true love in all its guises...

And no 'wow' permitted!!!

Beautifully written. I love the way it rolled out...very beautifully crafted. Well chosen vocabulary and wonderfully woven narrative. Very Shakespearean :)

Wow. I love the vocabulary and emotion in this. Even though the language is a little bit too "old-fashioned" for my taste, it still works very well in this poem. Good work. There's not a thing I can critique.

Is there an anodyne to lost romantic love. Knowledge I suppose of its biological purpose and an understanding of unconditional love and I suppose how one fell a little short. But then when the bar of unconditional love is met than romantic love need no anodyne at all. Superb penning as always, Sami:)

Wow, what a perfectly written sonnet, and -- as olden as the language of yore, genuine still, it's heartful core implores... continue on and ever more... Kudos, really splendid write.
