Places..Of The Heart/By Sami Khalil

A sad romance poem.

There lie...Places of the heart

Where orphaned words live domestic lives.

Neither fine fettles nor sacred texts dwell, except in postponed tomorrows.

Chaotic, perhaps, but the fleeting scenes

Are skillfully scripted among desultory

 apprehensions and frailty of echoes.

Intact, perhaps, but enough miswords can carry lovers’ diction down

The road of doltish broken heartedness, providing their own translations.

There lie…places of the heart

Where critics puzzle over the avant-garde of our blueness separations

 and recognitions of cherished memories.

Where strangers sleep through introductions and amble down the river banks of silence.

There, “being” is a mere concept exploring the voiced firsts of exhibits and undulations of images.

There lie…My heart and my fugitive soul

Waiting for you…My love!

A poignant word portrait of what it means to be creative. In every creative “There lie…places of the heart” on “he road of doltish broken heartedness” in “undulations of images” “providing [our] own translations.”

Your poetry moves your reader as Kahlo’s images move the soul.

Though I sail far and wide I still wait. Awaiting for the chance to bump into lovers paradise. Ahoy!

Does life mirror art or art mirror life? I wonder at your choice of the Kahlo piece and its parrots. When speaking words to the wind, one never knows what echoes will find their way back to you. Superb work as always, Sami:)

Do I detect the illusion of being. The fiction of reality.
Thanks

So good to see you writing beautiful poetry still...!!

I've a graveyard full of drafts that keep each other company... I always say i will come back, and they believe me... for love. Because i mean it... but i only visit, and rarely, resurrect. I now I feel sad...

Been awhile my friend... I always remember our time!!

Terry, or whatever name I was then.

there is a poignancy of longing and pain and sorrow over lost loves, unrequited loves, and late loves all thruout this poem - but the lover is devoted in waiting amidst silence and tears in the belief that the beloved will come for him - thank you for sharing this poem with us :)

best,
steph

that painting, of Frida Kahlo... i so admire her works, her self portraits, her life... like how our poetry reflects ourselves... I guess that's how we are as an artist, we penned what we feel & we paint what we experienced/seen... we all wait for the love we planted to bloom, even though forever is just a moment, still we wait, because love as they say, is worth it!

delicate indeed ...one to be read over out loud ... i read so much of this as a poet ...with words, thoughts and feelings all "..Undulating.." ... sometimes to fruition .. but also as the reader taking the poets trip and finding meaning, understanding in that place of the heart ... where the poet waits for all who get there ... makes all your lover so to speak ... lots of lines that especially move me but i think you worked and placed each word ...nothing extraneous, nothing lacking .. loved the read!

ps and of course it is also the forlorn poet waiting for the "one" :) ...enjoyed the reading no matter!
