Aware/……………………By Sami Khalil

A romance poem…

The Poem:

Dancing with vim and vigor,

Long before stars' dim flicker

And the leaves that wither...

Long before the winnowing

Of the wind across soul-scented

Barns and old plowed fields…

Long before our silent questions

Became aware of potentiality

And their scattered companions (answers)…

Conversely, it was “just us”,

Painted in the sheen's of love prompt,

With poignant looks at life and laughter.

Long before roots remember

soil’s drifted fragrances,

Or the five senses of the truest form,

Away from all common places.

Long before wishful thinking,

Merit and demerit,

Even instruments knowing their plectrums;

I read your eyes! I fathomed the silence we spoke constantly!

I loved you!

I loooove the way this builds up to a simple and beautiful conclusion. Also, I really appreciated the mixture of simple and complex ideas.
(Simple: "the leaves that wither.."
complex:
"..our silent questions
Became aware of potentiality
And their scattered companions.")
A truly beautifully written work of art :)

Reading this for me is out standing. I was thinking this weekend of writing a piece very similar to this, but you did it so wonderfully! I may just refrain from doing so. Really lovely Sami

Your final conclusory lines are stunningly written. “I fathomed the silence we spoke constantly!” Intriguing phrase. But then again as I read the poem I arrive at the realization, whilst perusing line after line that each one could not have been more ideally written. “Long before our silent questions became aware of potentiality”. Nicely said and elegantly personified. Your poem’s full of powerful, appealing imagery. One of the best romance poems I’ve seen in a while. Thanks for the share.

The whole poem is exquisite, and as always you have an uncommon gift for the language, but the last two lines are my very favorite. As you can probably guess, they truly captured me. Thanks for the read request, Sami.

You truly are a romantic soul Sami...nothing 'sort of' about this one, you knew I'd love the dance... it is love taken wings even before it's brilliance began. I read your eyes, sigh.....

Wasn't sure how enticing 'Even instruments knowing their plectrums' would be in a love letter, but I get the noted connotation there.... ;)

Excellent as always.

Oh Sami...
You made me feel such love in this sweet little thing you call a mere scribble.
I floated with your love over the barn, past the fields and deep into the soil to grab hold of the roots of this beautiful wonderful love. But then you ripped my heart out of the soil with three little words..
"I loved you!" This is a beautiful moment. Why is the love past tense. You should be ashamed, breaking young hearts. (Unless you meant that you loved your muse in the physical sense? In which case I say "Yay" and all is ok.)
