HOMELAND/By Sami Khalil
( A celebration of America's day, its ideals and the natural wonders )
)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

This is the land!
Your pledge of allegiance
Your exile... forsaken
Your fertile imagination
Your stripes and colors
You blood flows through
Hopes and dreams proffered

This is the land!
that loamed your cinch
with golden moments
with outre' dreams
with madrigal realities
with brave's therondies
where its timeless freedoms
breathe the air of knowing
that all men are created equal
even the festooned distaffs too
with merited causes of liberty
that knows neither sopors nor slumber
and justice is blessed with blindness.

This is the day!
For the miens of unsung heroes
For the visages of mantic moons.
For the outward manifestation
For the inner divine essence.

This is my homeland!
A lucid diamond in scented bowers.
You fire the mind of a poet and captivate
the heart of a wanderer, and in your love
I shall find life's fulfillment, and in your
school of nature, I shall learn the art of
living truth but in your sorrow, I shall
lament with the widowed for in our gilded
peaks we lost the summit to the wrath
of man reaping his fruits which courses
now in our bodies, minds and souls.

This is the New World!
These are my gnarled hands...

(This review, of course, applies to those words I actually understood. The poet's flowery vocabulary often exceeds my level of expertise--even when I use a dictionary attempting to decode phrases. Obviously, my failing.)
Soaring ode to a wounded giant; extolling the inspired principles upon which the United States was founded.
Raises up its basically good, hard-working people.
Truly heartwarming, Sami!
Thank you.

Well done. I think the second to the last stanza captures brilliantly the crisis of identity some say the states are suffering. And I love the last two lines...

i went places here...when we first got to this land we acted as if we owned it...we pushed aside those who had lived here first and really had a symmetry with the land..the native americans knew how to write poetry of the land without having to use words..

then we used the land, and used the land...and we write about it, from it, with it...but in some ways will never really understand our own Homeland..we have made it what we want...and have forgotten what nature and the land is really all about...

we could learn much from those we pushed aside.

this is such a good poem..very much like the Beat poets would write...something to get our attention---

i like so much.

Sami, what we have is what we have, making the best use we can is always an option. We work the land, we love the land and we appreciate all that we see...most of the time. Nice my friend.

Moved and spell-bound! Not other words to describe it! Love the way you have woven the words. I specially love the ending.

What a grand tribute Sami...love that last stanza, and the ending is right on, you just keep cranking these beauties out, I don't know how you do it my friend! :-)

This is incredible... reading it made me feel how I did when I was younger and learned to play "America the Beautiful" and performed it in grade school. Love it. May I share with my friends on Facebook. I will give you credit? :)
