Death is a funny thing.

Death is a funny thing.

A Poem by Samantha Lynn
"

I haven't editted this yet, btw. Sorry

"

Your loved ones will cry when you die.

They will weep sad tears

and leave the most beauteous of flowers at the head of your grave stone,

as they try to fill the emptiness that has left their hearts

because you are gone.

And your friends,

They’re going to talk great about you.

They will say that you were such a good person.

These are the same people who gossiped behind your back

when you went to get them ketchup packets from the lunch line.

These are the same people who

said they would always be there for you

when you needed someone to be there,

but never went through on their promises.

These people are going to treat you as if you changed the world,

when really you just died.

How you died doesn’t matter.

You are gone.

And they miss you,

so they act as if you were such a great person.

But why is it that people wait for death to overcome you

to treat you with such kindness.

They wait until you are decomposing six feet into the dirt and muck

to compliment you and give you the love you deserved when you were alive.

Wouldn’t you rather be alive to hear those words?

I do agree with the logic of your poem. We need to appreciate the people we care about when they are alive and strong. Your story told a true story for many. They waited too long to thank the good people in a life. Thank you for the amazing poetry.
