The Depths of My Depression

The Depths of My Depression

A Poem by Samantha Lynn
"

This Poem is a sort of part 2 of my other Poem "The Deserts of my Depression." I would read that first if you haven't already but either way, read and enjoy. :)

"

Imagine standing at the shore of a broad ocean,

Water barely able to cover your feet as it rolls up to the dry land at your back.

Close and closer that water will come

But you have it under control.

Which send shivers up your spine and back down

But eventually that water will disappear.

And just when you feel the shivering is over

That water will come back for more of you.

Eroding its way past your skin.

The quaking of your body will start up again

This time more noticeable than the last.

And looking down at your feet, you find the water has reached your knees

The water has lured you closer without you even noticing

The water is calling to you

You just cannot seem to hear their warnings

Because the oceans beauty is mesmerizing to you

But try to understand that under all beauty is hatred

And disgust

And something even uglier.

Nothing stays beautiful forever and the ocean understand that

Underneath the beauty is what society has corrupted.

But society doesn’t care that they have.

Why would they need to, anyways?

By this moment, the ocean has lured you deep into its sorrows

The icy water hitting against your back as you stare blankly out at the distance.

You are even deeper

You turn to head for the dry, safe sand but this is where the waves hit their peeks

They tumble over your body

Swallowing you whole.

You struggle to get to the surface

Kicking your feet wildly in all directions

Flailing your arms as if swatting bees

Desperate to get air back into your lungs

You scream as the waves continue to consume you

Inside and out

The water muffles those screams

They don’t want you to leave

They want you to stay with them

Forever.

Only you.

And you know that there is nothing you can really do about it but give in

Yet you try to fight it off anyways

In the hopes someone would save you from you from this unknown darkness.

No one comes.

No one saves you.

You are still screaming

The air bubbles are reaching the surface,

But your screams are contained in those bubbles of nothingness

And no one will ever hear your cry for help from way down there.

Why would they be listening that closely?

You are the only one the water was able to fool.

You gave in to this darkness a long time ago

Otherwise you would not have been fooled like so,

You realize this now.

Why continue to fight this force that is obvious to win.

Depression is a hard battle to defeat. I like the way you described thoughts in the chapter. Key to to winning against depression is to go forward and continue to look for something worthwhile to live for. Thank you for the excellent chapter.
