Pride

Pride

Tears. By definition, it could logically be described as a drop of salty liquid secreted from one’s eye. However, we humans always tend to take everything into the consideration of their pride. Whether it be grand acts of charity, giving ourselves a boost of self-appreciation; or perhaps just a simple act of tripping over could drown us.

Pride, metaphorically, would be a boat. Something that relies upon the kindness of the sea, the spectators, to stay above and survive. Sometimes, it could be generous; the boat would drift peacefully afloat the calming waters. Other times, it was vicious, and the boat would be tossed around its crashing waves before finally breaking and drowns.

Many people hear different things once they drown; sometimes screaming, sometimes crying. But the most common was the laughing; it was also the most unpleasant; often resulting in repairs that could take years to get fixed.

I learnt at a young age that tears were a sign of weakness. Tears were not ever meant to be shown in front of anyone, not even your family.

I have seen it happen; the ones that cry will also be the ones that die. Not in the sense of literally, of course, but their boat would always be the first to drown. It was also harder to get the boat fixed. After all, you are now the weak one, the pitied one, and the one that needs help; and from that day onwards, you will stay as the weak one, the pitied one, and the one that needs help.

The sea cannot be controlled! You cannot tame it; train it. The sea will not change for you; you would have to build your boat again, piece by piece.

Pride is a fragile thing; it can take up to decades to gain it, but it could also be lost within seconds.
