ONE MORE AUTUMN

ONE MORE AUTUMN

A Poem by Salvatore Buttaci

the yellow moon
rolling on the littered lake
rests its cratered cheek
against still another dead season
brittle leaves
covering moss""all living things""
fall like fake rain
on an empire once giddy with green
the yellow moon remembers

I opened this poem expecting praise of Autumn's gold and crimson leaves in all their glory...instead, I found a refreshing original take; less positive, yes, but nonetheless beautiful. A stunning poem... I especially like the phrase "an empire once giddy with green"

Makes one ponder the world, alive yet drifting into a stunning sleep.. "On an empire once giddy with green.." That line brilliantly voices the change of the seasons..
