IF IT'S YOUR BODY, TAKE CARE OF IT!A Poem by Salvatore ButtaciWe've heard the old argument, "It's my body!" Often the person making that insistence believes it's a body he or she can mistreat, but who would do that to what we own?
Bear this in mind: to boast your body is your own, Past empty words of ego, make certain that you Spare no effort to maintain your optimal health, Fast fading as we speak, if you now turn away.
Care about yourself! Begin with your eyes that see living color, black, white, the hues of bright nature, Glare of sunlight notwithstanding,––all things out there Giving you visual delight, a pleasure fest.
Wear life like a new suit. Listen to the sounds that Sing and speak around you: learn the chirp of sparrows, Share kind words you hear with others who are needy. Bring what sounds reach your ears into the depth of you.
Where the heart is broken, bitter tears are tasted. Salt on the tongue, a reminder that false love stings. Rare the lover who has not stumbled on bad wine. Exalt the taste buds! Eat healthy foods! Avoid junk!
Excite your sense of smell by inhaling jasmine, Ozone after a hard summer rain, a good meal. Right now commit yourself to smell all the flowers. Own the body you claim by doing all you can.
Rite of passage? You might say that. To be grown up Requires thinking maturely, touching milestones, Might of conviction at your ready fingertips. Desires detrimental to health? Give them up!
Cast your fate with the successful, those who love both Mind and body. Cultivate your intuition. Passed are the days you claim a body you abuse. Find your place in the world. Stand tall and proud.
Bodies and minds are not possessions to squander. Shoddy maintenance is something not to ponder.
