every sacred breath

every sacred breath

A Poem by samaveiled

                                                        every sacred breath

A heaviness lay
on my eyelids
and in the
thickened air.

By reflex,
I inhale
extending
deepening
until I’m floating.

every measured
breath,
held a bit longer
then the rest
brings me closer

to where I can curtsy
while stuttering
my whispers of thanks

before God.
And find, finally,
an aching moment
of peace
when all seems lost.

then the heaviness is gone.
a softness of heart
lounging lazily
where the heaviness
used to lay...
