The Apple Orchard

The Apple Orchard

A Poem by SamanthaGalli

Apple orchards and bright sunshine is how I remember a portrait of our love,

eating breakfast at a quaint restaurant afterward.

Simple, majestic smiles. Laughter like children.

I was happy where I was, I was happy to be alive.

“Don’t throw that apple! we’ll get kicked out”, I said nervously.

“Who cares”, he said as he curved it toward my chest.

I thew it back.

This is why I loved our relationship, our disregard for social norms.

Two unique individuals, fallen into the trap of hopelessly loving each other way too much.

Unfortunately it wasn’t all apples and sunshine.

It was bottles breaking, fists slamming, and infidelity.

How could I choose to love heartbreak with every fiber of my being?

My heart was shattered with every bruise and was put back together with every laugh.

But suddenly, the sky grew dark and my heart turned to dust.

What was once loved, was now lost.

I can’t find it anymore, I wish I could.w

Simple place and actions. Places we shall remember and hold tightly in old age. A sad ending to the excellent poetry.
