Baggage Claim

A Poem by samanthaashley_
"

My life after surviving a mass shooting and the subsequent craziness in my head.

"
He stole a part of me.
I let him keep it every day, 6 feet under,
Next to his body count.
He is my greatest teacher,
My worst nightmare.
His legacy is a parasite.
I have submitted, I am his host.

A few minutes, a few bullets,
A few hours I spent angry at the world.
And I am forever changed.

A man I never met, I never saw,
I never heard speak
Took control of my mind
As I drank myself to sleep.

I wonder what his name was.
