Gaia's Fall

Gaia's Fall

A Poem by Jacob Malone
"

Poem about the Earth based on the Greek Gods.

"

Like Titans

We attack the beloved world

Where we live:

Slicing down our trees

In the woods of Artemis

And forcing our neighbor animals

To die without habitats to live,

Ripping out the roots of agriculture

Right before the eyes of Demeter,

And her daughter Persephone,

As she returns from the underworld

Trying to bring life to our ignorance

And disregard for existence,

Choking Uranus

With pollution in the rich air,

High in the sky, which he created

And attempts to clean every day,

Destroying the o-zone

So that Hemera and Helios

Can burn the earth, unintentionally,

With the power of fiery

Hephaestus at there side,

Poisoning the ocean

Of Poseidon and

Killing the long lived creatures of the sea

With plastic and oil,

Charging along side of Ares

Into war,

To destroy the people of this world

And shed the toxic blood of each other upon the ground,

Until finally we drop the bombs of pure devastation,

That leave this world tainted with radioactive venom,

Stripping away all the beauty from this earth,

With pollution and warheads,

Making the beautiful Aphrodite cry

Crystal teardrops,

At such hideous scenes

And forcing her to find no love in any mortal

As she once did,

Ignoring Athena’s wise words

Of salvation and

Smacking away her lively olive branch,

We begin to anger Zues and Hera

By polluting even Mount Olympus with our

Disgusting actions and ignorance,

So close we tread to the edge of destroying Gaia

That not even Asclepius could heal her

Back to the glory she once was.

How can you let Hypno lull you to sleep at night,

When there is such destruction and violence drowning this world

And unnecessary riots and rebellions break loose

In a world plagued by the cursed followers of Bia?

Even as Selene hangs over you at full bloom,

And Nyx, the darkness of midnight, holds the world

You should not be able to sleep,

Knowing that something,

Everything,

Is wrong and corrupt in this world.

The Moirae have strung together the string of fate

And find nothing in the immediate or far future

Except Thanatos and

A ride upon the Styx to the depth of the Underworld,

For all us cruel mortals,

Just to be laughed at by the ruler of the dead, Hades,

And then thrown into the black abyss known as Tartarus

To be tormented and chased by the playful Cerberus.

With this on your mind,

Stay sleeping in calm tranquility

Hoping that Morpheus will fill your head

With dreams and lies.

Just continue to follow Eros and Adephagia,

With there sinful pleasures,

Its alright if you ignore Hygieia and her practices,

No one will stop you,

For you will find hardship and strife your prize

For such great acts of foolishness,

Almost as if you had been guided by Ate herself.

Caerus does not help us now

Because we are on our own without fortune or luck

And we shall continue to gamble our time away

Spending every last cent of our soul

And every last quarter of our earth

Until finally, we have destroyed everything in the world,

Sold all of our time on chance,

And returned back to the emptiness

Known as Khaos.
