Vietnam--Scars Unseen

Vietnam--Scars Unseen

A Poem by sako395
"

Edwin Starr--War Oh, war has shattered many young man's dreams / Made him disabled bitter and mean Lyrics by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong

"

In the hell hole that is my mind

Their faces loom about me

And I am pulled

into their eyes . . . their eyes

Terror stricken

  pleading for mercy

Irrevocably accepting their fate

With mine

An eternal guilt

In the caverns of my memory

   their screams do resound

Hands over my ears

   only locks them in

I take another sip

but no amount of whiskey ever dulls the trip

Fated forevermore

   too re-live that terrible day

And to become one

   with their re-death

Another curse

The line, "hands over my ears only locks them in"...that hit home for me. Nice testament to anyone suffering post traumatic stress disorder!

Just finished reading American Sniper..He paid such tribute to the forces and Nam..I was so in his head the entire time albeit he handled it so differently..A sad tormenting piece but something that needs to be told . You did a surreal job of emotional display..I salute you for your service to our Nation and the telling of the horrors you had to endure
