Is our education system modern as well as practical enough to eliminate unemployment and thus povertA Story by Saherwell it s not a story.I write informative essays and threre is no option for that. Who have interest in these things enjoy.this essay is all about educational system of Pakistan.Education plays a vital role in shaping social, cultural and economical destiny of a country. Educational system is a systematic way of providing education to people. Every country follows its own policies, rules and regulations regarding this system. Pakistan is a developing country and being a developing country it is necessary for Pakistan’s educational sector to provide quality education with modern facilities to its residents. It is also right of every Pakistani to receive free and compulsory education. The article 25-A of constitution of Pakistan also obligates the state to provide free and compulsory quality education to children of the age group 5 to 16 years. The educational system of Pakistan is generally divided into five levels primary level (grades one through five), middle level (grade six through eight), high level (the Secondary School Certificate), intermediate level (Higher Secondary School Certificate) and university programs leading to undergraduate and graduate degrees. Although policies and laws have been set up and implemented regarding education but this educational system fails to provide quality education with modern knowledge and practical application. Education can eliminate poverty and unemployment if it is modern and is based on practical application and not only memorizing the theory. Being a citizen of Pakistan and studying in this system, I had observed that Pakistan’s educational system fails to provide modern as well as technical knowledge which is and in future will result in decline in development and growth of every sector. Weather it is agriculture sector, industrial sector or in facilitating trading activities. In human development report, Pakistan is placed at 136th position for having just 49.9 percent educated population. If we analyze our educational system we can observe many flaws in it. One of the hindrance is unequal lines. Due to unequal line a vast difference is created between different student studying in different mediums or boards. We can analyze difference in level of mind of student by observing system of education of different boards. Like I am currently affiliated from Aga Khan Board and one of my colleague has transferred feom Sindh board to Aga Khan Board, she was telling me that main focus of Sindh Board teaching was on learning and memorizing theory. It is also called rote learning, in which student just learn the text he/she is been provided and they do not learn concept of it. They are not able to cope with ever changing world and new methods because they were forced to learn a specific way. When they are not able to cope in modern world, they will be unemployed and when they are not able to earn their living poverty will increase. In Pakistan medium of education is different in both public and private sector. Most of public educational institution fails to give quality education. They even fail to hire well qualified and trained teachers or organize any educational programs to provide practical experience. Regional disparity is also a determent in educational system of Pakistan which hinders eliminating unemployment and poverty. In Balochistan schools and collages are not that much groomed and modernized than schools and collages of Punjab. We can estimate Pakistan’s position by observing FATA’s literacy rate. In FATA the literacy rate is constituting29.5 percent in male and 3 percent in female, which is very low. For economic development and prosperity it is essential to educate male as well as female so that they can manage problems of their lives in future. Ratio of gender discrimination is also a flaw in our educational system. Ratio of boys and girls is 10:4. For last few years there has been increase in growth of private schools but it is not enough. If we take example of interior Singh or Punjab, there conditions of educational institutions is most horrible. They do not have strong infra structure, proper curriculum, trained staff, they also are extremist and they consider it against of Religion to educate girls. Another reason can be feudalism, usually feudal lords do not want to increase education in their area. If any kind of awareness is spread among them so they will get knowledge about their rights and will raise voice. It is a fact that Pakistan has the world’s second highest rate of out-of-school children. Almost 25 million children are currently out of school in Pakistan. The report also states around 600000 children of KP were reported to have missed one or more years of education due to ongoing militancy. On children’s health status, it says that Pakistan rank in top five countries with the largest number of children under five who are moderately or severely underweight. Educational facilities and health facilities are interlinked with each other. If better health facilities are not provided in any province so it will adversely effect their education. If we analyze this point in current scenario so we can take example of drone attacks. A national non-governmental organization along with government in north and south Waziristan agencies has appealed to the US to stop drone attacks in the tribal areas, saying it will pave the way for immunization campaigns meant for better child health. As mentioned above that children of KP have missed one or two years due to ongoing militancy, these drawn attacks could be one of the reason for such long gap in many children’s educational year. Allocation of funds for education is very low. It is only 1.5 to 2.0 percent of total Gross Domestic Production (GDP). According to my observation it should be 8 percent of total GDP. Also quality of education in most of public schools and collages is even below par and also poverty restricts parents to send their children to public and private educational institution. Also in budget a small portion is allocated for educational sector and even less amount I's paid for this sector, then allocated. Major of our budget portion is allocated for defense purposes. Although there are heroes who in this system have proved that any thing can be possible. Balochistan is the largest province of Pakistan (area wise) and it is also most backward area of Pakistan, but it also has many precious minerals like Sui gas. Balochistan provides Sui gas to whole country. A Pakistani student from Balochistan has bagged gold medal in an international contest held in Turkmenistan leaving all countries like Germany, Canada, Russia, England, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka behind. The competition was held in September among student from 45 countries who presented 150 projects in International Computer Project Olympiad (ICPO). It is a prove that determination, willpower and strength of mind can do anything but every student do not have these qualities. Some need attention and proper education before they can achieve their goals which the educational system of Pakistan is failing to provide its student. According to my point of view Pakistan’s educational system is not modern and practical enough to eliminate unemployment and thus poverty. There are many hindrances and flaws in our system and policies which are resulting in slowing down of educational, economical, social and cultural development. © 2013 SaherAuthor's Note
