he sent the rain

he sent the rain

A Poem by Matthew L. Arcelay

(humming)
storm in the distance
(storm in the distance)
heavy is the daayyyyy
(heavy is the daayyyy)
loorrrd bring the rain
(loorrrd bring the rain)

... to wash my spirit clean

I mean that singed smell on those faithful wings still lingers in me
flutter by like butterfly
wonder why
I'm so down grounded like coffee beans
pitch black with no sugar
like life i take it straight up
divide my soul and my heart racing to understand my part
off pace and out of breath I've become tone deaf to my art

torn apart by hazing persuasions
embracing fleeting occasions
that come once in a blue moon
on blue notes in the corner of smokey rooms

if they only knew
that the sun only shines inside when you whistle between the lines
when he came he sent the rain

... to wash my spirit free
