stolen identity

stolen identity

A Poem by Matthew L. Arcelay

He took away my identity, "who are you" he said "you're not who you claim to be"
" Your an imposter".... , " or rather a wolf among the sheep"

"look at yourself" he told me "you claim boricua... but your not from the island.... your just a white man trying to fit in".

You see my verry existance he considers a crime

He labels me, "nuyorican".....

uses those words like a slap across the face....

The problem with that is, I know who I am

a proud man,

who at once tries to fit in and break away from the tired label they call a race......

A race...? what a laugh... how can their be a race where noone wins..?..?..

Not one person knows where divisions end and friendships begin.......

A people without a nation

who want both to be tied down ......

and EMANCIPATION.....

a people who cry they were robbed blind....

oh the horror ,.... tell me please....

where is the salvation

without unity .... there can be no progress.... and until Y O U , CAN embrace our ties......

look me eye to eye and call me brother......

than WE will have nothing more than second class status...........

while figurehead politicians get fat of the land

While at the same time THEY get led like lambs to the slaughter....

and it all goes to show that old addage is correct ...

you can lead a horse to water...

but you can't make it Drink

in other words to sum up there whole outlook stinks... and i'll still be who i am in the end, a puerto rican and a man
