War

War

A Poem by sarah

She loved him
She had loved him since she was 16
He held her heart
And she held his

But when he came home
From fighting for his country
And for his life

He wasn't that 16 year old boy
He wasn't the husband who had left
He wasn't someone she knew

He was so far away
But so close
He was sitting beside her
But he was a 100 miles away

She tried to reach him
She tried to love him again
She tried to get him to come back
She tried to find her husband

But her husband had been so beaten
So hurt
So torn to bits
That he hardly existed anymore

He said she didn't understand
And never could understand
He said he couldn't explain
But he never tried

The man she married
Came home
The man she loved
Was killed in battle

nice work, the harsh reality of war continues to live on even though one has stepped off the bloodied battlefield. this was very heart-breaking work, and the pain of this one really reaches in deep. very deep.

such painful words. how painful it must be for her that the one she loved is not the same and never will be?
still though, i have to agree with what the man said, except for the "he never tried" part. i know this for a fact: nobody who has ever been in combat is in a position to judge anyone who has been in combat, not even friends or family. the
horrors of a battlefield can mutilate even the toughest ones, be it inside or outside. we would never know for sure until we have been there.
epic work!

Such a great poem, and I love the story. There's a grammar error, though: it's "a hundred days," not "a 100 days." Speaking of that part, a hundred miles isn't all that far away, so perhaps you could use a different number.

I liked it...

This is one of the reasons I never support war. People are killed and families are torn apart.

I have been told I changed. Funny part hard to see different in your self. War leave scars on everyone it touches. A very strong story. Men who seen real death and prayed for another day can't be normal again. The ending was very good. You create a sad tale. The real sad part is. It is a true story about what is happening to our Soldiers today. Poor wife and family paid for the sins of a government.
