New Year

I sit in the back of the car
My music is playing
I watch as the cars pass me by
The clouds seem to follow my car

The cold air blows my hair around my face
The smell of fresh air overwhelms me
The sun is shining down
Warming my cold cheeks

The car is quiet
And I have some time to think
To contemplate things
To observe the world around me

The new year is approaching
And my mind can't help thinking
About all that has taken place
This year

So much has happened
So many new experiences
New emotions
New worries

So many things changed
So many sad things happened
But so many good things happened as well
A smile crosses my face

I fell in love for the first time
The feeling overwhelmed me
He made me smile
And laugh and feel important

I had my heart broken for the first time
He turned out to not be so perfect
Every word was a lie
And it ended badly

I gained new friends
And lost old ones
My beliefs were confirmed
But some new doubts appeared

So much as changed
I have changed
The world has changed
All in one year

I look forward to seeing
Who I am next year
What new things I have experienced
