Memory

Memory

A Poem by sarah

All affection for you is gone
My heart no longer races when I see you
I no longer feel the need to seek your approval

But the memories still exist
They still come rushing back
Whenever we are in the same room

I can't help smile
When good memories come to my mind

I can't help feeling sad
When the memory of your betrayal haunts my thoughts

I no longer wish to please you
I don't get upset when you don't speak to me
I no longer put your happiness first

But I can't help remembering a time when I did
When you were my world
And the thought of losing you broke my heart

But at the same time
My heart still sinks
Every time I remember all your broken promises

I don't love you anymore
I don't care what you do
Or say

But I don't think the memory of you
Will ever fade

I just had a thanksgiving dinner with my ex and it was almost nice but still can't let myself take my guard down with him. Let me know what you think

That must have been difficult to have dinner with him. Sometimes the no contact rules is the best policy. In any event, your poem is an excellent example of how it takes the heart a while to catch up with the mind when it comes to falling out of love. It is a process that we all must endure from time to time. Thankfully new love will refill us all.

The memories will always stay with us. Teaches us to be more careful in the gift of love and emotion. I like the complete poem. A very good ending to a outstanding poem.

Great job. Shows the struggle of dealing with relationships even long after they are put out of their misery

the feeling of mistrust and betrayal. it's hard to feel comfortable with someone after being betrayed by them. then there is lingering memories of happiness.

Wow. I hope I don't turn out like that guy. If I did, I would never be able to forgive myself, at any point of time possible. But you did a great job writing this poem. But aren't most of your recent works showing a lot of broken hearts.

You portray the uncomfortable emotions connected with betrayal and rejection quite well. Very real. Lack of rhyming verses makes for a more serious effect.

A great poem… it's very relatable. Memories and feelings are funny things, aren't they?

One little thing bothers me, though. In the last line, I think "memory of you" would be more appropriate than "your memory".

Awesome job! :)

It's pretty hard to have dinner with your ex, right? That's what I think and happen in most stories
I love this poem much! Your poem is real, cause is based on your experience, but not from imagination.
