It's hard not living in the past

Forgetting the hurt

Leaving behind the pain

Not dwelling on those who hurt us

 

We want revenge

We want them to know how it feels

We want the memories to go away

We want to know what it would be like if things were different

 

The pain was so intense at one point

The pressure on our hearts was over whelming

The tears almost drowned us

The sobs weakened us

 

We don't want the guilty to go unpunished

We want people to hear and understand our cries

We wish that we could go back and change things

We wish we could understand why what happened happened

 

But there comes a point

When we have to stop the tears

We have to stop dwelling on the past

The painful memories

 

We lift our faces to the sky and smile

When we see those who hurt us we don't show fear

We don't let them know they hurt us

We smile and wave

 

We do not live for the pain

The pain lives in us if we let it

If we give into it then it has won

 

We must stop our tears

Be strong

And believe that everything has it's purpose

And that we will slay the pain with our swords of strength

I saw you are the first runner up with this poem in a contest! Congrats on the win!!
Also I myself can really relate to everything you wrote in this poem. I have had many many people who have hurt me all throughout my life. And I find myself remembering the hurt and the people who hurt me. And a part of me does want revenge. They hurt me, and I feel I want to hurt them back...just so they can feel the hurt like they did to me. But then I know that it's wrong to feel that way. Even though we might not feel like it, we need to forgive those who have hurt us in the past...forgive and let them go and continue to stay strong. Great job with your poem! I've written a few poems myself. I hope to put up some here sometime when I get the time.
