I know more than you think *smirk*

I know more than you think *smirk*

A Poem by sarah

I am young

And opinionated

I am considered rude

And disrespectful

For speaking what I think

And what I feel

And how I see things

I am considered bad

People look down on me

They judge me

They speak badly about me behind my back

They think they understand

But they don't

When I see a friend being hurt

I will tell those who are hurting her what I think

Even if it is an authority

Someone considered older, and wiser

I am told I should silence myself

Let people talk over me

And step on me

And be ok with this

Is that right?

I think not

I am persecuted for speaking my mind

For standing up for myself

Is that a crime?

To some yes

The young are to be seen not heard

The young are supposed to be trampled and stepped on

The young are supposed to shut up when spoken to as though we are stupid

I respect adults who respect me

We are to treat people the way we would like to be treated

I want to be spoken to like an adult

Not a stupid kid who knows nothing

I do not claim to know everything there is to know

But I do claim to know a lot more than people give me credit for

And I could teach some adults a lesson or two

But with respect of course :)

Author's Note

sarah
I wrote this a while back I was being trampled by adults who spoke over me like I wasn't smart or old enough to understand what they were saying. Well I was old enough to understand but would they let me tell them that? NOPE! they didn't have to guts to talk to me face to face so this is what I was thinking about

I agree. Adults think less of teens.

You are very wise at your young age. No excuse for disrespect. We must stand our ground. My father told me have no fear and never bow to no-one. His logic create good friendships. People who I had problems with. Became good friend after we found a solution. A outstanding poem with wisdom and common sense.

ah this was nice work, i just love those raw uncut feelings in this poem you've written right here. this was very well written here and i sure like this. rest assured you will get that respect you deserve. one thing i have learned though, and i'm sure you do know already, that respect is earned, not bought. great work!!
