coloursA Poem by Sadbha reflection on a past friendship i had through the use of different coloursOur friendship was like a kaleidoscope. One minute all I could see was the Rose and pink tinted lenses mirroring Your fractured laugh, over-sized sunglasses glistening, The sunhat falling off your head as you shot me that grin while Your strawberry blonde locks bounced off your shoulders. The array of burgundy and corals arose in me as bubbles of excitement, Affection and humour. The second after my vision was filled with only yellow and green hues: The dazzling sun reflecting off the grass in summer When we had decided to take a short-cut through the fields. The barley awns whipping and scratching any exposed Section of skin, but we did not care. Exhilaration and warmth occupied my bones and made my head spin. We crossed the field and our path was left behind us As streams of intertwining, fallen, golden stalks. A mere moment later, your face is shrouded in tones of blue You are screaming: a lapse in attention had resulted in my drink Seeping into your fathers couch. I tumble over, my intoxication Sending waves of fear and incoherency while you tower above me, Your disgust evident, present even to this day, Your forehead crinkled in anger, upset and stress. But my dear, you have always inhibited that shade of indigo Even on your most sunset of days. Then the kaleidoscope clicked, and you were no longer visible at all. Those purples and navys that were with you at the end Followed me after we had split. Your anger had stalked me like shadows and nipped at back: I'm scarred from your words, and bruised by your actions. Somehow, dear, you have molded from those bold, glorious mixtures of Golds and oranges and reds and violets Into brown. And I hate you for it.
