3:The Elf

A Chapter by Sabbath_Nikole

“There hoping into the Camero,” whispered Chad.

“Yea, that’s Aubrey alright. I still can’t believe she’s here of all places.”

“She’s so amazing; she looks as if she could fly.” Chad stated dreamily, never taking his eyes off her.

“Umm, you know I’m not human right?” Lif replied.

“Well, duh…..but you mean…..”He paused,” She’s not either?”

“Precisely, and she’s lost to our world. She’s not supposed to be here.” Lif lowered his voice. “She’s been missing for nearly a centaury.”

She hadn’t changed at all. Still the same fair hair, same shockingly purple eyes. Her wings were tattooed to her back, so they wouldn’t seem out of place in the human world.

“What are you talking about?” Chad raised his eyebrows. “You said faeries could go back and forth between the worlds.”

“Well this is true, but still she is supposed to stay at home. She was never supposed to see this mortal world.”

“I still don’t get it. It makes no sense.”

“She is a very powerful faerie, she is part of the royal family, and well……She might have to save our world.”

Chad stood there, mouth agape. When he first met Lif he had researched fairies, so he knew there were two major different courts, with many solitary fey surrounding the outskirts of them. One was good, the other, not so much. Aubrey was not like. There was no way, but then again, she did move with an inhuman grace, and seemed to glow from within, but that he told himself, was just because he was infatuated with her.

“Who are the others?” Lif questioned. His green eyes narrowed, they didn’t look like people he would have her socializing with. Oriental designs etched in silver, black, purple, blues, oranges, and reds. Silver, no gold, fangs and black eyes. Flawless people.

“That’s the Dragon’s Cartel. Rebels, renegades, loners, they all come together here. You’ll find vampires, werewolves, fugitive elves, all sorts. Wiccans, magickers, Halflings, humans. Strong humans mind you. Otherwise they’d be cattle to the vamps.

He watched Aubrey move. Quick, graceful, completely at home. She wrapped one arm around Jaguar, and whispered sacred secrets in his ear.

“That one I do believe the vampire head she fancies.” Chad mentioned softly, jealousy welling within him.

“That’s no vampire, that’d be here dragon friend.”

“Wait, what? Aren’t dragons you know, ummm large reptiles with huge wings, breathing fire and smoke?”

“They are shape-shifters you know. That one, I recognize him. He’s been in love wither her since they were dragonlings.”

“Dude, you’re losing me.”

“Aubrey is a descendent of several powerful creatures. Her mother being that of a unicorn tribe in the far north fell in love with Barumi, a purebred dragon.  Barumi left his daughter and lover for defending his homelands when Etna invaded. She’s is a dragon’s daughter but of Unicorn and Tigress descent.”

“Both?”

“Her mother was originally born of a Tigers tribe, the Mira their called. If you look closely her wings are stripped as a tigers. Any ways her mother being born a Tigress, led a life of rebel, and in finding herself she developed into that of a unicorn. We rarely ever see that happen anymore.

Thus Aubrey is a skilled hunter, and a deadly predator. Being of Unicorn, Dragon, and Tigress descent.”

“You forgot she was a fairy.” Chad chuckled.

“Ah yes, you see she is a rare one indeed, I suppose when all those forms combined in her mothers womb she developed fey qualities, but also granted the power of the three forms.”

“Uh-huh, and you know all this because…..”

“We grew up together after her mother passed and her dragon left, she came to live with the elves.”

“I see, well why do you want to take her back. She’s happy here.”

“We need her back because our stories are fading. The shadows are lengthening among the Never Woods.  We fear the black nothingess has come to claim us at last. She is the only dragon daughter I know of, and because we are former friends, I was sent to find her and bring her home again.”

He shifted his bag to his shoulders and headed toward Aubrey without a word of goodbye.

Ah you had me until this last chapter. :-( The story is really good. Really really good. And through the first two chapters you kept so much tension and suspense, that whole 'what's going on? what's gonna happen next?' effect was in full force. And then in this one, you threw so many things out at once. There was so much stuff that you had a character narrate, I wish you would've just told those things through the story. Your writing is great, there was nothing there to distract me from the story. Throw a flashback or something, don't tell me this stuff I wanna see it!!
