An Eldritch Voice

An Eldritch Voice

A Poem by Sabastian Rivera
"

A sonnet about an enraptured captain.

"

He calls to me from the ocean deep.

An ominous but solacing voice only I can hear.

I’ve never seen him only that I hear his voice in the wind or in my sleep.

Never has something enraptured me and brought fear.

My crew believes we are looking for lost treasure.

I’m not lying because to find him means to find fulfillment.

They follow me loyally into a path that leads to either chaos or leisure.

That is why they cannot know about my predicament.

We sail into waters unknown in search of the place where the voice rests.

As we get closer it gets louder as if he is next to me.

The sky became cloudy and red and the men grew quiet like the pests.

The waves calmed and this feeling of foreboding replaced my glee.

The sea rumbled and a winged behemoth with tentacles appeared from the depths.

It was this demon who called to me now I breathe my last breaths.
