Alive

A Poem by Saaski

I wrote the ending first and had to figure out a beginning for it.

I am small, I am frail
I am weak and unstable
But through all this time,
You've still been unable
to take me down
to your lonely abyss
But now, newly freed
You must understand this:
Whatever didn't kill me,
did not make me stronger
but instead, made me wiser,
So I've lasted much longer.
I've seen all your tricks,
and your plots, and your schemes
And have my own mechanisms
with similar themes.
You try holding me down,
and when you're finally done,
You'll know that you've failed
and I've overcome.
And nothing in heaven
or under the sky
could possibly tell
of the beauty I find
in the fact that no matter
how hard you contrive,
I am here, I am breathing,
I'm awake, I'm alive.
