You Loved Me

You Loved Me

A Poem by Saaski
"

Typical highschooler poetry away!

"

You loved me.
You loved my hormonal tendancies
and the way I smiled.

You left a rend across my heart
as you tore through my life,
a gap I cannot bridge
(who can bridge oblivion?),
or perhaps a gap
I do not want to bridge.
It has become my black hole
dragging me down
with midnight hands,
suffocating and terrifying.

I loved you.
I loved your naivete
and the way you talked to me.

What we had has shaped us,
changed us forever.
I still bear your mark
(and yet, a mark I cannot bear).
I will not pretend
that I am not still in love.
I will try to forget,
but for now,
I still can't pry away my fingers
from the memory of you.

I think I'd like it a lot more without the line "(who can bridge oblivion?)" - I feel oblivion was too dramatic too soon, where the black hole and midnight hands is far more effective. I didn't understand 'naiivette,' did you mean 'naivete' which Google tells me is the french spelling of naivety. But those things aside I love this. It feels quiet and I like the questioning tone you adopt in the lines "(and yet, a mark I cannot bear)" and "or perhaps a gap / I do not want to bridge."
It's very heartfelt and well written. Thanks for sharing it.

This is so sad! But the way you can take your feelings and put them into words that paint such a vivid picture is just awesome. The last two lines are just brilliant. Awesome work.
