PrologueA Chapter by Sofia CervantesPrologue. The
rain was pouring down the sky and a small car was rushing down the highway.
Inside it, there were five people. A boy, two girls, a mother, and a father. The
father was driving and the mother was sitting next to him with her head leaning
against the glass window, completely asleep. The family was driving back from
Disney Land and the two girls were awake. They were arguing but it wasn’t the
type of argument that ends up in compromise. It was a heated fight. The father
was trying to calm them down and begged them to keep quiet so they wouldn’t
wake the boy and the mother. It
was raining. The father turned around. It was just for a couple of seconds and he
was thinking that maybe if he could talk some reason into them, the rest of the
drive back would go down smoothly and quietly. It
was raining, and the road in front of them was empty. When the father deviated
his attention from the road to the fighting sisters, a bus appeared at the
other side of the lane but he didn’t see it. The bus drove past them. He tried
to talk to the older sister, she ignored him. It
was raining, and the road in front of them was empty, except for another car
that appeared behind them. The father was now trying to talk some sense into
the younger sister but she ignored him too. It
was raining, and the road in front of them was empty, except for the other car
that had appeared behind them. Inside this car there was a guy that had broken
up with his girlfriend that very day. The father finally found a middle ground.
The sisters were now quiet and looking out the window. It
was raining, and the road in front of them was empty, except for the other car
that had appeared behind them. Inside this car there was a guy that had broken
up with his girlfriend that very day. He had driven all the way across the
country to go meet her, he was crying. The sisters were silent and the father
was humming a song. The mother woke up. A
snap of the fingers, that was how fast the guy lost control of the car and
crashed into the back of the family’s car. Their car flew off the road and
flipped over. It
wasn’t raining anymore and the road was empty except, for two cars. Crashed.
The father wasn’t breathing but the mother was. She took the two girls and the
boy out of the car. Behind them, the guy who had broken up with his girlfriend had
gone through the windshield. The
oldest sister stared at his bold covered body on the floor. He hadn’t been wearing a
seatbelt. © 2017 Sofia Cervantes |
